The following is a message from Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School Principal William Rivers:

Thank you for continuously being a part of your child’s success here at Myers. I would like to remind everyone - parents/guardians and students - of the cell phone policy here at Myers.

Students are permitted to carry cellphones but are prohibited from using it during instructional time. If any student is seen on their phones during class, the phone will be confiscated and given to the grade-level assistant principal and will be returned to the student once buses are called for dismissal. Any subsequent phone use will require a parent/guardian to come to the school and pick up the device.

After three times we are asking that cell phones are no longer held by the student and instead given to a staff member in the classroom at the start of the day and returned at dismissal time.

Please speak to your student in regards to this policy and enforce the need to keep their cell phones away. Below is a copy of our progressive discipline plan for students found using devices not issued by the district:

  • Offense 1: The student’s phone will be collected by a hall monitor, given to an assistant principal, stored securely and returned at the end of the day. Teacher will call home and record a class incident in SchoolTool.
  • Offenses 2-3: The student’s phone will be collected by a hall monitor, given to assistant principal, stored securely and a parent/giardian will be required to pick up. Teacher will call home and record a class incident in SchoolTool.
  • Offense 4: The student’s phone will be collected by a hall monitor, given to assistant principal, stored securely with parent/giardian pick up. This is considered persistent non-compliance  and will result in a discipline referral and ISS. Teacher will call home and record a class incident in SchoolTool.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to your child’s assistant principal and/or child’s teacher. Thank you for your continuous support.
