The City School District of 91ÌÒÉ« is proud to honor National Hispanic Heritage Month 2024.
Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized each year from Sept. 15-Oct. 15. It honors the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans, celebrating heritage rooted in the Spanish-speaking countries of Central and South America, the Caribbean and Europe.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Johnson. President Reagan expanded it in 1988 to cover the 30-day period now recognized. The beginning of this observance on Sept. 15 commemorates the day that Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua gained their independence. Mexico and Chile also celebrate their independence days during September.
