CDTA Field Trip

Students in CDTA headquarters

What better way to understand the way a business operates than an onsite field trip to meet company leaders and employees!

Our 91ɫ High Business Concepts class had the chance to do just that on Oct. 29 when they visited the CDTA headquarters here in 91ɫ. Along with teacher Christopher Austen, 16 students had the unique opportunity to explore the different types of jobs that exist within CDTA.

First, CDTA CEO Carm Basile gave an opening talk, emphasizing how it is important to earn trust, to learn how to be comfortable being uncomfortable and to master being the “go-to person” that is willing to become a subject matter expert.

Many of our students utilize public transportation for commuting to school, and it was fascinating to discover that lawyers, accountants, IT professionals, marketers, drivers, service technicians, grant writers, customer service agents and more all collaborate to ensure they can hop on a CDTA bus and make it to their first period class on time!

Students also learned interesting details about how bus routes are determined, how pedestrian safety is prioritized and how federal and state grants are a key factor in keeping public transportation affordable and accessible to those who need it.

While many valuable lessons and skills are developed in the classrooms at 91ɫ High, we are thankful for dynamic offsite learning experiences like this so students can discover how specific areas of study can lead to future jobs locally and beyond.
